Fuel System Safety Precautions

WARNING:
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under pressure
- If the battery is not going to be disconnected, then for safety reasons, remove the fuse from the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- before opening the fuel system. Otherwise the door contact switch on the driver door will activate the fuel pump.
- Place clean rags around the connection before opening the system. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
- Wear safety gloves
- Wear protective eyewear.
Very hot fuel can burn your skin.
- The temperature of the fuel lines or fuel may reach 100°C (212°F) after stopping the engine. Let the fuel cool down before opening any line connections otherwise there is a danger of scalding.

To prevent personal injury and damage to the injection and pre-glow system, observe the following:
- The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection and preglow system wiring or tester cables.
- Wash the engine only when the ignition is turned off.
- There will be entries stored in the engine control module DTC memory if the engine was started while the connectors were disconnected: Check DTC memory in OBD . Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

- Make sure to complete the steps for disconnecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .
CAUTION:
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
- Route lines of all types (for example for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
- To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
