Fuel Tank, Draining When More Than 3/4 Full

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required

Fuel Extraction Unit VAS 5190
Fuel Extractor Unit VAS 5190A (without illustration) for E 85 - fuel type.

-- Open the fuel filler door.

-- Clean the area around the fuel filler tube.

-- Remove the cap -arrow- on the fuel filler neck.

-- Attach the Fuel Siphoning Device Ground (GND) cable to an ungrounded area on the body.

-- Remove the cone piece -2- from the shaft piece -1- on the Fuel Extracting Unit VAS 5190.

-- Attach insulating tape -arrow- to the hose at a distance -a- from the end of the suction hose.

The distance -a- is 900 mm.

-- Attach the shaft piece -1- from the Fuel Extraction Unit VAS 5190 to the fuel tank filler tube and hold it tight.

-- Push the siphon hose on the Fuel Siphoning Device into the fuel tank until the marking made previously -arrow- seals with the filler tube -2-.

-- Drain the fuel tank as much as possible through the filler tube.

NOTE:

A flap -1- is located in the fuel tank on the lower end of the filler neck. It must not be damaged by the extracting hose. Only slide the hose in as far as the marking that was made earlier -arrow-.

Do not use force to pull the extractor hose it if gets stuck on the check valve.

In this case, remove the fuel delivery unit and manually hold the check valve open. When doing this, make sure the arm does not come in contact with the fuel.

-- Remove the extracting hose carefully.

NOTE:

When no more fuel can be extracted, the tank is emptied only enough for the sender flanges to be opened without danger.
