Differential Overview

NOTE:

Heat the bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing to approximately 100 °C (212 °F) using the Hot Air Blower VAS6414. Wear protective gloves.

Replace both tapered roller bearings together.

Adjust the differential, refer to DIFFERENTIAL, ADJUSTING  when replacing the tapered roller bearing, differential housing, transmission housing or clutch housing.

  1. Transmission Housing
  2. Adjusting Shim
  3. Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  4. Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  5. Differential Housing
    • With the final drive gear.
    • Thrust washer union fitted to differential housing, refer to Figure.
    • Spring pin hole adapted to the length of the spring pin, refer to Figure.
    • Allocate according to the Parts Catalog.
  6. Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  7. Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  8. Clutch Housing
  9. Seal
    • One piece with a sleeve.
    • For the right flange shaft.
    • If the seal is damaged, replace the both the seal and sleeve, refer to RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT AND SEAL .
  10. Conical Bolt
    • 25 Nm
    • Install with the threaded piece -item 18-.
  11. Flange Shaft
  12. Flange Shaft Pressure Spring
    • Installed behind the flange shafts.
  13. Thrust Washer
    • Installed position, refer to Figure.
  14. Tapered Ring
    • With grooves for the thrust washer.
    • Installed position: differential housing taper.
  15. Lock Ring
    • Holds the tapered ring, the thrust washer and the pressure spring when the flange shaft is removed.
  16. Thrust Washer Union
    • Install using transmission fluid.
    • The thrust washer union has a ridge on some transmissions, refer to Figure.
  17. Large Differential Bevel Gear
    • Installing, refer to Figure.
  18. Threaded Piece
    • Installing, refer to Figure.
  19. Differential Taper Axle
    • Removing, with a short roll pin, refer to Figure.
    • Removing, with a long roll pin, refer to Figure.
    • Installing, refer to Figure.
  20. Adapter Sleeve
    • To secure the differential bevel gear axle.
    • Different lengths of spring pins are installed.
    • Differentiating the roll pins, refer to Figure.
    • Short roll pin: removing and installing, refer to Figure.
    • Long roll pin: sheared off at removal, refer to Figure.
    • Long roll pin: installing, refer to Figure.
  21. Small Differential bevel Gear
    • Installing, refer to Figure.
  22. Large Differential Bevel Gear
    • Installing, refer to Figure.
