Axle Beam Bonded Rubber Bushing, Replacing: Removing

-- Release parking brake.

Vehicles without Center Armrest

-- Remove the mat from the storage compartment.

-- Remove the door -1- from the center console.

Vehicles with Center Armrest 

-- Remove the center armrest. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Continuation for All Vehicles 

-- Loosen the adjusting nut -1- until it is possible to disengage the parking brake cable -2- from the compensator bracket.

-- Loosen the wheel bolts.

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Remove the wheels.

-- Install the Spring Compressor VAG 1752/1 -1-.

1. Spring Compressor VAG 1752/1
2. Spring Holder VAG 1752/3A

-- Tension the coil spring -2- and remove it.

-- Disengage the parking brake cable -1- from the bracket -2- on both sides of the vehicle.

-- Pull the parking brake cable -1- out of the guide tube -3-.

-- Remove the parking brake cable -1- bracket -2- on the rear axle -3-.

-- Move the Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG 1383A under the axle beam.

-- Secure the rear axle with a strap or something similar when lowering or removing it.

-- Mark the position of the bolts -arrows- on the bracket on the right side of the vehicle.

-- Loosen the threaded connection -1-.

-- Remove bolts -arrows-.

-- Lower the axle beam and remove the bolt -1- and the bracket.

-- Remove the bolt -1- from the axle beam on the left side of the vehicle.

-- Lower rear axle using Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG 1383A.

-- Mount the special tools as illustrated.
