HALDEX Clutch Oil Level, Checking Or Filling

The high performance gear oil for Haldex coupling 052 175 A1 is available as a replacement part.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm VAG1331
Vehicle Diagnosis Tester
Vehicle Diagnosis System - Diagnosis Lead VAS5051B/1
or Diagnostic Cable, 5 m without Power Supply VAS 5051/3
Also for filling:
Charging Device For Haldex Coupling 2VAS6291A

Prerequisites:

The oil temperature must be between 20 and 40 °C (68 and 104 °F).
The vehicle must be horizontal.

The oil temperature can be reached by driving the vehicle for awhile.

-- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester.

-- Select "Suspension (Repair Group 01; 40 through 49)" in the display.

-- Select "AWD with Haldex clutch" in the display.

-- Select "01 - OBD-capable system" in the display.

-- Select "AWD Haldex" in the display.

-- Select "electrical components" in the display.

-- Select "oil temperature" in the display.

Checking

-- Remove the oil filler plug -arrow-. (Shown with rear final drive removed for the sake of clarity).

The oil level is correct if the Haldex clutch is filled to the lower edge of the oil filler hole or up to 3 mm below the oil filler hole.

-- Install the plug -arrow- and tighten to 15 Nm.

Filling

Requirement:

The vehicle must be horizontal.

The high performance gear oil for Haldex coupling is available as a replacement part.

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray VAS6208 under final drive.

-- Remove the oil filler plug -arrow-. (Shown with the rear final drive removed for the sake of clarity).

-- Install the adapter -A- until seated.

-- Lock the elbow -B- onto the adapter -A-.

-- Add enough oil using the Charging Device For Haldex Coupling 2VAS6291A until it runs out between the filler tool adapter and the transmission housing.

-- Remove the filler tool and adapter; a little oil left over will run out.

The oil level is correct when the Haldex clutch is filled up to the lower edge of the oil fill hole.

-- Install the plug -arrow- and tighten it to 15 Nm.

-- Finally, recheck the oil level in the Haldex clutch. Refer to HALDEX CLUTCH OIL LEVEL, CHECKING OR FILLING .
