Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

CAUTION:

This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview prior to starting procedure.

Mandatory Replacement Parts 

-- Remove the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .

-- Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove nut -arrow- and remove transmission gearshift lever -A- from the gearshift shaft.

-- Pry out the seal in the direction of -arrow-.

-- Lightly oil the new gasket on the outer edge.

-- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip -Arrow- halfway with Sealing Grease.

-- Install the new seal all the way. Do not tilt the seal while doing so.

-- Position the gearshift lever -A- and tighten the new nut -arrow-.

Gearshift Lever Only Fits onto the Splines in One Position.

-- Install the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING .

-- Attach the selector lever cable to the transmission and adjust. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
