Fuel Tank, Draining When More Than 3/4 Full

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required

Fuel Extraction Unit:VAS5190
Fuel Funnel:T40256 for vehicles with incorrect fuel protection.

-- Follow all safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to PARKING/AUXILIARY HEATER AND FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

-- Make a marking -arrow- on the hose -a- from the end of the suction hose.

-- Use duct tape.

Rear Axle	Distance a in mm
Vehicles with multi-link rear axle	945 mm
Vehicles with torsion beam rear axle	1010 mm

-- Open the fuel filler door unit -2-.

-- Clean the area around the fuel filler tube.

-- Remove the cover -1- on the fuel filler neck.

CAUTION:

Attach the :VAS5190 Ground (GND) cable to an ungrounded area on the body.

Vehicles Without Misfueling Guard

-- Push the siphon hose on the :VAS5190 into the fuel tank until the marking made previously -arrow- seals with the filler tube -2-.

Vehicles With Misfueling Guard

-- Insert the :T40256 all the way into the fuel filler tube.

-- Slide the suction hose from the :VAS5190 far enough into the fuel tank so that it aligns with the marking -2- made earlier on the edge of the :T40256 .

-- If there is no :T40256 , the misfueling guard must be removed. Refer to MISFUELING GUARD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

NOTE:

On AWD vehicles a red chamber from the fuel tank is emptied.

Continuation For All Vehicles

-- Drain the fuel tank as much as possible through the filler tube.

NOTE:

There is a door -1- in the fuel tank at the bottom end of the fuel filler neck.

The check valve -1- must not be damaged by the suction hose from the :VAS5190 .

Only side the hose in as far as the marking that was made earlier -arrow-.

Do not use force to pull the extractor hose it if gets stuck on the check valve -1-.

In this case, remove the fuel delivery unit and manually hold the check valve open. When doing this, make sure the arm does not come in contact with the fuel.

-- Remove the extracting hose carefully.

NOTE:

When no more fuel can be extracted, the tank is emptied only enough for the sender flanges to be opened without danger.
