Suction Jet Pump, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Observe safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to PARKING/AUXILIARY HEATER AND FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

-- Move the front seats all the way forward.

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

WARNING:

Danger due to leaking fuel.

To prevent large quantities of fuel from leaking from the fuel delivery unit when removing, the fuel tank may only be a maximum of 1 /3 full.

-- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, DRAINING .

-- Unclip the right locking flange cover -1- at the tabs in direction of -arrows- using the :3409  .

-- Unclip the grommet -1- downward out of the cover -2-.

-- Guide the cover -2- on the wiring harness -3- downward.

-- Unlock and disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- from the locking flange.

Vehicles With Parking Heater (CANADA ONLY): 

-- Release the connector -3- for the Metering Pump -V54- and disengage it from the sealing flange.

-- Release the connector -3- for the Metering Pump -V54- and remove it.

-- Lift the tab -2- in direction of -arrow A-.

-- To do so, reach between the floor panel and the fuel tank with a finger.

-- At the same time, pull the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- -1- on the wiring harness -3- in direction of -arrow B- carefully out of the mount.

-- Remove the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- toward the inside between the fuel tank and the floor panel.

-- Move the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- together with the wiring harness to the side.

-- Remove the fuel line -1- from the locking flange. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, SEPARATING .

WARNING:

Fuel Lines Are Under Pressure.

Danger of personal injury to eyes and skin.

Wear protective eyewear and protective clothing in order to avoid injury and contact with the skin. Wrap a cloth around the connection before loosening hose connections. Open the connection carefully and release the pressure.

-- Remove the fuel return line -2- from the locking flange. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, SEPARATING .

Vehicles With Parking Heater (CANADA ONLY): 

-- Remove the fuel line -3- to the Metering Pump -V54- for the parking heater on the locking flange.

-- Open the lower clamp to do this.

-- Remove the fuel line -3- carefully.

-- Remove the locking ring using the :T10202  .

Vehicles Without Auxiliary Heater:

-- Carefully lift the sealing flange -3-.

-- Pull the locking flange -3- out of the fuel tank opening just a little.

-- Remove seal -1- on the opening in the fuel tank.

-- Carefully pull the locking flange with the fuel line -2- as far as possible out of the fuel tank opening.

NOTE:

Be careful not to bend the swimmer arm on the fuel level sensor when removing the fuel delivery unit.

-- Reach in the opening on the fuel tank.

-- Remove the suction jet line -1- to do this push the release on the connecting piece. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, SEPARATING .

-- Remove the suction jet pump delivery line from the fuel delivery unit.

-- To do this push the catches -2 and 3- and remove the line.

Vehicles With Parking Heater (CANADA ONLY):

-- Pull the locking flange -1- out of the fuel tank opening just a little.

-- Remove the seal -2- on the fuel tank opening.

-- Pull the locking flange with the fuel line and the electric wires as far as possible out of the opening in the fuel tank.

NOTE:

Be careful not to bend the swimmer arm on the fuel level sensor when removing the fuel delivery unit.

-- Reach in the opening on the fuel tank.

-- Release the delivery line from the catches -2 and 3- and from the fuel delivery unit.

-- Remove and disconnect the suction jet line -1- to do this push the release on the connecting piece. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, SEPARATING .

-- Unclip the cover -1- off the left locking flange using :3409  -arrows-.

-- Unclip the grommet -1- downward out of the cover -2-.

-- Guide the cover -2- on the wiring harness -3- downward.

-- Unlock and disconnect the connectors -2- from the locking flange.

-- Unlock and disconnect the connectors -1 and 3- from the locking flange.

-- Unclip the connectors -1 and 3- from the sealing flange mounts.

-- Remove the locking ring using the :T10202  .

-- Carefully lift the locking flange -2- and pull out of the opening in the fuel tank just a little.

NOTE:

The seal -3- can stay in the fuel tank opening.

-- Unclip the suction jet pump -1- from the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169-.

-- To do this carefully bend the retaining tabs -arrows- outward.

WARNING:

Lay cloths below to catch the leaking fuel.

-- Carefully remove the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169- from the fuel tank opening.

-- Turn and tilt it as needed.

NOTE:

When removing make sure that the floater arm from the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169- is not bent.

-- Remove the suction jet pump though the opening for the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169- on the fuel tank.

NOTE:

Follow all disposal regulations.

Check the fuel tank for contamination.
