Gear Oil In Bevel Box, Filling: Notes
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50 Nm :VAG1331
- Charging Device For All Wheel Drive Coupling 2:VAS6291A
- Charging Device For All Wheel Drive Coupling 2 - Adapter 3:VAS6291/3
- The Oil Filler - Adapter 6:VAS6262/6 must also be used for some fluid containers.
Requirements
- Bevel box must be in the installation position.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Remove the heat shield -A- (if equipped) from the drive axle -C- -arrows 1-. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
The heat shield for the right drive axle is attached with 2 or 3 nuts. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Use the :VAS6291A to fill:
-- Route the :VAS6291A hose through the engine compartment.
-- Guide the hose from the :VAS629A past the particulate filter for vehicles with a particulate filter -A- on the right side.
-- Place the Drip Tray underneath.
-- Remove the oil filler plug -arrow- in the bevel box.
-- Disconnect the :VAS6291/3 and the elbow piece.
-- Install the Adapter all the way.
-- Lock the elbow to the Adapter.
-- Close the valve -arrow-.
-- Attach the oil container -A- to the :VAS6291A .
- The hose must not sag.
-- Open the valve -arrow- and hold the oil container as illustrated.
The bevel box is now filled.
-- Lift the vehicle after a few minutes.
If the bevel box is filled correctly, oil should leak out of the :VAS6291/3 .
If no oil is escaping, lower the vehicle and perform filling procedure again.
-- Lift the vehicle.
-- Set down the oil container (for example, on a tool cart) when the oil starts to leak out of the Adapter.
A portion of the excess oil runs back into the oil container.
-- Disconnect the Charging Device when the oil stops running back.
-- Make sure there is still oil in the :VAS6291A hose.
-- Remove the Adapter.
-- Check the oil level and fill again with oil up to the lower edge of the filler hole.
-- Insert new oil filler plug -arrow- and tighten. Refer to OVERVIEW - BEVEL BOX COMPONENTS .
- Remove any oil that reaches the bevel box and other components carefully.
-- Install the heat shield -A- to the drive axle -C- -arrows 1-. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
The heat shield for the right drive axle is attached with 2 or 3 nuts. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
