Removing the Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing from the Output Flange

It is necessary to remove the bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing and, if necessary, the seal in order to select the new shim.
There are different installed locations for the output flange seal and bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing:

The Output Flange Seal -arrow- is inside the Pinion Housing.

Remove the bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing from the output flange. Refer to Removing the Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing from the Output Flange .

The Seal and the Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing -arrow- Is Located on the Output Flange.

Remove the seal -arrow- and bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing from the output flange. Refer to figure below.

If Is Necessary to Remove the Seal arrow and the Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing If They Are on the Output Flange as Follows:

The bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing must be removed from the output flange using the :VAG1582/13 .

Place the :40-105 on the output flange.
Be careful not to damage the bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing. There is no replacement part.

-- Remove the output flange seal.

If the Seal arrow for the Output Flange Is Located inside the Pinion Housing, Then Remove the Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing from the Output Flange as Follows:

The bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing must be removed from the output flange using the :VAG1582/6 or the :VAG1582/6A .

Place the :40-105 on the output flange.
Be careful not to damage the bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing. There is no replacement part.

Use New Shims when Replacing the Output Flange

This adjustment is necessary whenever the output flange is being replaced. This creates the preload on the tapered roller bearing for the shaft bevel gear.

-- Measure the length of the shaft on the old and new output flange to get the difference.

Example:
Old output flange		42.90 mm
New output flange		43.00 mm
Difference		0.10 mm

If the new output flange is longer- install a thinner shim.

If the previously mentioned output flange is longer- install a thicker shim.
