Reducing Agent Tank, Draining

NOTE:

The "NOx reducing agent AUS 32" (AdBlue® ) is simply called reducing agent in the following information.

WARNING:
  • The reducing agent can irritate skin, eyes and the respiratory system.
  • If the fluid comes into contact with skin, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of water.
  • If necessary, consult a physician.
CAUTION:

Make sure the reducing agent does not contact any clothing or the vehicle body.

If this occurs, wash immediately with clean water and then dry with a lint-free cotton cloth.

If the reducing agent has already crystallized, use warm water and a sponge.

Reducing agent that is not removed will crystallize and can damage the affected surface after a period of time.

WARNING:

Danger due to reducing agent leaking out.

-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the :VAS6208  underneath.

-- To catch escaping reducing agent place a clean cloth under the coupling point.

-- Remove the breather line -1- and the hose -2- from the reducing agent tank -4-.

-- Push the release buttons from the breather line -1- and remove the spring clip -3-.

-- Remove the hose and the line.

Prepare the :VAS6557  as Follows:

-- Close shut-off valves -A through C-.

-- Connect the coupling -D- with the shut-off valve -A- connection.

-- Apply compressed air with a pressure hose.

-- Open the shut-off valve -A-.

This creates a vacuum in the :VAS6557  .

-- Close the shut-off valve -A- as soon as the pressure gauge indicates a vacuum 0.8 bar (11.6 psi).

-- Separate the coupling -D- from the shut-off valve -A- connection.

-- Stop the flow of compressed air to the compressed air hose.

-- Guide the end of the hose -E- as far as possible over the opening until it is on the floor of the reducing agent tank.

-- Open the shut-off valve -B-.

NOTE:

The vacuum in the :VAS6557  extracts the reducing agent from the tank. The :VAS6557  holds 11 liters (3 gallons). When this quantity is drained, it is possible to remove the reducing agent tank. If the reducing agent tank contains a larger amount of reducing agent and it should be completely emptied, this procedure must be repeated if necessary.

-- To empty the :VAS6557  , hold the connection on the shut-off valve -C- over a suitable container and open the shut-off valves -A and C-.

-- Completely extract the reducing agent as described above.

-- Flush the :VAS6557  thoroughly with water after completing the procedure.
