Sealing Flange, Removing And Installing, Transmission Side: Installing
Check the expiration date of the Silicone Sealant.
The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes after applying the silicone sealant.
To prevent contamination of the lubricating system with sealant residue, place a clean cloth over the open part of the oil pan.
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat-blade scraper or a rotating plastic brush.
-- Sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).
-- Apply silicone sealant as shown to the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes after applying the silicone sealant.
The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake pipe screen.
-- Insert the Guide Sleeve -3- with the small diameter first into the sealing flange -1- as shown.
-- Make sure the sealing lip -arrow- on the seal -2- does not >>fold over<< while doing this. The large sealing lip must face the engine.
-- Place the sealing flange -1- using the :T20097 -3- on the crankshaft journal.
-- Slide the sealing flange onto the crankshaft journal with the :T20097 -arrow-.
-- Remove the :T20097 . The large sealing lip -1- must face the engine.
-- Tighten the new bolts in evenly in the sequence shown:
| Step | Screws | Tightening Specification/Additional Turn |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | -1 to 8- | Install by hand all the way |
| 2. | -1 to 8- | 9 Nm |
After installing the sealing flange, the sealant must dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.
Further assembly is performed in the reverse order of the removal.
