Fuel Tank, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Observe safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to PARKING/AUXILIARY HEATER AND FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
-- Move the front seats all the way forward.
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Open the fuel filler door.
-- Clean the area around the fuel filler tube.
-- Remove the locking cap -arrow- from the fuel filler tube.
-- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, DRAINING .
-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to REAR SEATS .
-- Fold the carpet up at the right in the area of the fuel delivery unit.
-- Unclip the cover -1- at the tabs -arrows- using the Trim Removal Wedge :3409 .
-- Disconnect the connector -arrow-.
-- Remove the fuel filler door unit -2-. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR UNIT .
-- Remove the right rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the bolts -1- from the filler tube on the body.
-- Unclip the wire on the filler neck -2-.
-- Remove the right underbody trim panel. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Remove the exhaust system rear section. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS .
-- Remove the right rear coupling rod. Refer to STABILIZER BAR .
Vehicles With Multi-Link Rear Axle
-- Press the lever -2- located on the brake caliper in direction of -arrow- and disengage the brake cable -1-.
-- Squeeze the tabs -3- and remove the brake cable from the bracket -4- on the brake caliper.
-- Unclip the parking brake cable -4- from the bracket -arrow A-.
-- Remove the parking brake cable from the guide -arrow B- for the bracket -3-.
-- Remove the bolts -2- and pivot the trailing arm -1- downward.
Continuation For All Vehicles
-- Release and disconnect the fuel lines -1 and 2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, SEPARATING .
-- Remove the heat shield on the fuel tank. Refer to -item 11-.
If the vehicle has an auxiliary heater, disconnect the fuel line for the Metering Pump -V54-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 3-.
-- Place the Engine and Gearbox Jack :VAS6931 under the fuel tank for support.
-- Remove the bolts -2 and 4-.
A second technician is required to remove the fuel tank.
-- Lower the fuel tank and remove it from the body.
-- Lower the fuel tank.
