Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

-- Remove the complete air filter housing, if it is located above the selector mechanism. Refer to [For engine(s) CVCA] Air Filter or [For engine(s) CNLA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CZTA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CBPA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CPPA, CPRA, CPKA, CPLA] Air Filter .

-- Remove the gearshift lever and selector relay lever. Refer to OVERVIEW - OPERATING CABLES .

-- Remove the seal using the Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal :T20143/1

-- Lightly oil new seal on outer circumference.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip -arrow- halfway with Sealing Grease :G 052 128 A1  .

-- Drive in the seal using the Press Piece - Shift Rod/Alternator :VW423  .

Install in reverse order of removal.

-- Install the gearshift lever and selector relay lever. Refer to OVERVIEW - OPERATING CABLES .

NOTE:

The gearshift lever can be installed in only one position.

-- Adjust the gearshift mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .

-- If removed, install the complete air filter housing. Refer to [For engine(s) CVCA] Air Filter or [For engine(s) CNLA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CZTA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CBPA] Air Filter[For engine(s) CPPA, CPRA, CPKA, CPLA] Air Filter .
