Coolant, Draining And Filling: Filling: Procedure

-- Attach the left coolant hose to the bottom of the radiator. Refer to Figure.

-- Connect the lower right coolant hose to the charge air cooling circuit cooler -arrow-.

-- Fill with coolant reservoir on the :VAS6096  with at least ten liters (10.5 quarts) of premixed coolant with the proper mixture ratio:

-- Install the :VAG1274/8  on the coolant expansion tank.

-- Attach the :VAS6096  to the :VAG1274/8  .

-- Place the drain hose -2- in a small container -3-.

NOTE:

A small amount of coolant which should be collected is drawn off with the discharged air.

-- Close the valves -A and B- by turning lever at a right angle to the flow direction.

-- Connect the hose -4- to compressed air.

-- Open the valve -B- by turning the lever in the flow direction.

-- Open the valve -A- for a moment.

-- To do this, turn the lever in the flow direction so that the :VAS6096/1  hose fills with coolant.

-- Close the valve -A- again.

-- Leave the valve -B- open another two minutes.

-- Close the valve -B-.

NOTE:

Repeat the procedure if the needle goes below the green range.

Check the cooling system for leaks if the pressure drops.

-- Remove the pressure hose.

-- Open the valve -A-.

-- Remove the :VAS6096  from the coolant expansion tank.

-- Fill with coolant up to "max" marking.

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- If the vehicle has a parking heater, switch it on for about 30 seconds.

-- Set the temperature to "HI".

-- Press the AC  button to turn off the A/C compressor.

-- Close the cap on the coolant expansion tank until it locks into place.

-- Start the engine and allow it to run alternating between 1500 RPM up to maximum 2800 RPM until the radiator fan starts running.

-- Turn off engine and allow it to cool off.

-- Check The Coolant Level.

-- Install the :VAG1274/8  again on the expansion tank.

-- Give 1 bar (14.5 psi) pressure to the cooling system using the :VAG1274B  .

-- Then reduce the pressure on the tester and remove the :VAG1274B  .

-- When the engine is running, fill coolant up to approximately 5 mm over the MAX mark.
