Compression Pressure, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B
Puller - Spark Plug ConnectorT 10112A
Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm VAG1331
Compression Tester Kit VAG1763

Test Conditions

Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C (86 °F).
Voltage supply OK.
All electrical consumers such as, for example, headlamps and rear window defogger, must be off.
If vehicle is equipped with an Air Conditioning (A/C) system, it must be switched off.
For vehicles with an automatic transmission, the selector lever must be in "P" or "N".

Perform the Following

-- Disconnect the connector -arrow- from the ignition coil.

-- Disconnect the connectors from the outer fuel injectors.

-- Remove the spark plug wires using the Puller - Spark Plug Connector T10112A.

-- Remove the spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B.

-- Check the compression pressure using the Compression Tester Kit VAG1763 and Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 6VAG1763/6.

NOTE:

For information on using the tester, refer to the Operating Instructions.

-- Have a second technician operate the starter.

-- Operate the starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression Pressure:

MKB	New Bar Positive Pressure	Wear Limit Bar Positive Pressure	Difference Between Cylinders Bar Positive Pressure
CBPA	10.0 to 13.0	7.7	maximum 3.0
CKJA	14.0 to 17.0	9.8	maximum 3.0

-- Check the Engine Control Module (ECM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory and correct any faults. Then erase the DTC memory, refer to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE, CHECKING AND ERASING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY .
