Exhaust Camshaft Balance Shaft: Installing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta and 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Because of the small clearance between the balance shaft and cylinder block, the balance shaft may need to be cooled in order to install it. Check if the balance shaft can be installed into the cylinder block without forcing it in. If it cannot, the balance shaft must be cooled before installing it.

-- Check the installed position of the balance shaft pipe -arrow- :

NOTE:

Press the pipe slightly together in order to get it into the installed position.

Press the pipe into the crankcase and bend both halves one time to the inside.

-- Place the new balance shaft in a freezer for 30 minutes or spray it with commercially available cooling spray.

-- Lubricate the balance shaft bearing with engine oil.

-- Install the exhaust camshaft balance shaft.

-- Before tightening the bolt -1- make sure the balance shaft lies level with the camshaft.

NOTE:

If the balance shaft is not level, then the pipe for the balance shaft must be installed again.

Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
