Rear Flexible Disc

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) V.A.G 1332
Engine/Gearbox Jack V.A.G 1383 A

Removing

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Remove the pendulum support bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Press the "engine and transmission" forward and secure in this position using a suitable piece of wood -A-.

-- Support the front part of the exhaust system using the engine/gearbox jack V.A.G 1383 A.

-- Disconnect the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve -arrows- and remove the rear exhaust system. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A6, 09M] Description and Operation .

-- Remove the tunnel brace.

-- Loosen the bolts -arrows- for the intermediate bearing 2 turns.

-- Remove the rear driveshaft with flexible disc bolts -arrows- from the rear final drive.

-- Remove the intermediate bearing bolts -arrows-.

-- Carefully remove the rear driveshaft from the centering pin of the rear final drive flange.

NOTE:

Do not tilt the driveshaft when removing it. Pull it off of the centering pin in a horizontal position. The sealing ring in the centering bushing -arrow- must not be damaged.

The flexible disc and the vibration damper cannot be separated from each other.

-- Support the driveshaft.

-- Identify the location of the rear flexible disc and the rear driveshaft flange with respect to each other.

-- Remove the rear flexible disc bolts -arrows- from the driveshaft.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

NOTE:

The sealing ring in the driveshaft flange -arrow- must not be damaged when removing and installing.

Replace the driveshaft if it is damaged.

Do not tip the rear driveshaft, push it horizontally onto the centering pin.

Install all driveshaft parts marked in relation to each other in the same position when reinstalling.

Tightening specifications, refer to DRIVESHAFT OVERVIEW .

Location of the flexible disc with vibration damper:

The brace on the outer diameter -arrows- faces away from the driveshaft.
Three projecting sleeves each on the rear final drive flange and driveshaft flange engage in the flexible disc holes.

-- Install the driveshaft to the rear final drive flange so that the marks -arrows- line up.

Install the intermediate bearing without tension.

-- Align the intermediate bearing in its elongated holes so the driveshaft or bearing is not under stress.

-- Tighten the intermediate bearing after tightening the driveshaft bolts.

Tightening specifications, refer to DRIVESHAFT OVERVIEW .

-- Install new pendulum support bolts -1 and 2-. For the correct tightening specifications refer to Specifications .

-- Install the exhaust system and align it without tension. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A6, 09M] Description and Operation .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the tunnel brace.
