Oil Pan: Installing

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.

-- Cut off the nozzle on the tube of sealant at the front mark (diameter of nozzle approximately 3 mm).

-- Apply silicone sealant to clean sealing surfaces of oil pan as shown. Sealing compound bead -arrows- must be:

2 to 3 mm thick.
and run on inside of bolt holes -arrows-.

NOTE:

Sealant bead must not be thicker than specified. Otherwise, excess sealant could get into oil pan and clog strainer in intake line of oil pump.

With transmission removed, oil pan must seal flush with cylinder block.

With transmission installed, oil pan must make contact on transmission.

-- Apply silicone sealing compound bead as illustrated to clean sealing surface of oil pan. (The fig. shows the location of the sealant bead on the cylinder block).

-- Install oil pan immediately and tighten all oil pan bolts lightly. Make sure that the oil pan is seated flush against the intermediate plate/transmission flange.

NOTE:

When installing the oil pan to a removed engine, make sure that the oil pan is positioned flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side.

-- Tighten the oil pan bolts in a diagonal sequence to 15 Nm.

-- Tighten the oil pan/transmission bolts to 45 Nm.

NOTE:

After installing oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.

-- Install noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
