Sealing Flange, Belt Pulley Side

Counter-holder tool 3099
Assembly tool T10053
Torque Wrench V.A.G 1331
Torque Wrench V.A.G 1332
Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
Flat scraper
Protective glasses
Silicone sealant D 176 404 A

Removing

-- Remove toothed belt TOOTHED BELT .

-- Remove the toothed belt crankshaft sprocket. Lock the toothed belt sprocket with the counter support 3099.

NOTE:

When fastening the counter support, place two washers between the toothed belt gear and counter support.

-- Drain engine oil.

-- Remove oil pan OIL PAN .

-- Unbolt the sealing flange.

-- Remove the sealing flange and if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.

Drive out sealing ring with the sealing flange removed.

-- Remove sealant residue from cylinder block with a flat scraper.

-- Remove sealant residue from sealing flange using a rotating plastic brush (wear safety glasses).

-- Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.

-- Before installing, remove oil remains from end of crankshaft with a clean cloth.

-- Cut off the nozzle on the tube of sealant at the front mark (diameter of nozzle approximately 3 mm).

NOTE:

The sealing compound bead must not be thicker than 2 to 3 mm, otherwise excess sealing compound could enter the oil pan and may block the oil suction pipe strainer. Likewise, it could drip onto the sealing surface of the crankshaft seal.

Before applying the bead of sealant, cover the sealing surface of the seal with a clean rag.

-- Apply silicone sealing compound bead -arrow- as illustrated to clean sealing surface of sealing flange.

-- Install sealing flange immediately and tighten all bolts lightly.

NOTE:

To position sealing flange with sealing ring installed, use guide sleeve T10053/1.

-- Tighten bolts of sealing flange in diagonal sequence to 15 Nm.

-- Install a new sealing ring CRANKSHAFT SEAL, BELT PULLEY SIDE .

-- Install oil pan OIL PAN .

NOTE:

After installing, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.

-- Toothed belt, installing and tensioning TOOTHED BELT .
