Rear Brake Caliper Piston

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

-- Remove piston from brake caliper by turning knurled wheel toward left.

Insert piston compressing and extracting tool so collar makes contact on piston.

For pistons that are difficult to move, an open-end wrench (size 13 mm) can be applied at the appropriate wrench surface -arrow A-.

-- Remove seal using 3409.

Installing

-- The surface of the piston and seal must only be cleaned with mineral spirits and then dried.

-- Thinly coat piston and seal with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before inserting.

-- Place protective cap with outer sealing lip on piston.

-- Using 3409, insert inner sealing lip into cylinder groove.

Hold piston in front of brake caliper for this procedure.

-- Install the piston by turning knurled wheel toward right.

-- To screw in, use T10165/1 as an aid.

Insert piston compressing and extracting tool so collar makes contact on brake caliper.
When piston is misadjusted using a T10145 or if foot brake is operated, the automatic reset function of the brake caliper is compromised.
