Right Flange Shaft, Seal With Sleeve (One-Piece)

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Thrust Piece T10148
• Spindle from Seal Installer-Rear Diff 3066
• Slide Hammer-Complete Set VW 771
• Additional Part for VW 771 VW 771/37
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
• Drip Tray V.A.G 1306

Removing 

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Turn steering as far as possible toward the right.

-- Remove the right drive axle heat shield bolts -arrows- and shield, if equipped.

-- Remove the drive axle -1- from the flange shaft.

-- Tie the drive axle up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.

-- Place a drip tray under transmission and engine.

-- Remove the flange shaft bolt. To do this, install two bolts into the flange and counter hold the flange shaft using a pry bar.

-- Remove the flange shaft and pressure spring.

-- Replace the seal and the sleeve together.

A ridge is located on the internal diameter of the sleeve.

-- Install the additional part for VW 771 VW 771/37 directly behind the ridge inside the sleeve.

-- Using force, push the additional part for VW 771 VW 771/37 into the sleeve and remove the seal and sleeve.

Installing 

-- Clean the sealing surface in the transmission.

-- Install the seal and the sleeve together.

A -

Install the spindle from the seal installer-rear diff 3066 into the threaded piece in the differential.

B -

M12 nut

-- Turn the nut -B- and pull the seal with sleeve all the way over the thrust piece T10148.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for sea lG 052 128 A1.

-- Install the flange shaft and bolt.

-- Install the drive axle -1- to the flange shaft. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the drive axle heat shield and bolts -arrows-, if equipped. Refer to Specifications .

-- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHECKING, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

Tightening Specifications 

Flange shaft to transmission, see -item 12- in DIFFERENTIAL OVERVIEW .
