Fuel Pump (FP), checking: Notes
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, 1999 Volkswagen GTI, 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, 1998 Volkswagen GTI, and 1997 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
- Fuse no. 18 (S18) OK
- Turn ON ignition.
Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- must be heard to run briefly.
If the fuel pump does NOT run:
- Turn OFF ignition.
- Pull off cover in front of relay panel.
- Remove Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17- from relay panel (position 12).
NOTE:
- If tools must be used to remove relays or control modules from the relay panel, first disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.
- Before disconnecting battery ground (GND) strap, obtain code for radios with anti-theft coding.
- Connect VAG 1348/3A remote control between relay contact -4- and Battery Positive Voltage (B+) using VAG 1348/3 adapter cable -2-.
- Operate VAG 1348/3A remote control.
If Fuel Pump (FP) runs:
- Install Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17-.
- Check control of Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17-
If Fuel Pump (FP) does NOT run:
- Remove cover in luggage compartment floor.
- Disconnect 4-pin connector from Fuel Pump (FP) Module.
- Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester to connector outer terminals, using cables from VAG 1594 adapter kit.
- Operate remote control.
- LED must light
If LED does not light:
- Locate and eliminate open circuit using wiring diagram:
If LED lights (voltage supply OK):
- Loosen flange cap nut using tool 3217.
- Check for open circuit in wiring between flange connector and fuel pump.
If no open circuit can be found:
- Replace Fuel Pump (FP) Module, See FUEL PUMP (FP) MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
