WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, 2008 Volkswagen GLI, 2007 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The engine number (engine code and serial number) is located on the left side at the engine/transmission partition.

The engine code is also stamped in on the right side of the cylinder head and on the cylinder block.

The engine number consists of up to nine alphanumeric characters. The first part (maximum 3 letters) represents the engine code, the second (six digit) is the serial number. If more than 999, 999 engines with the same engine code are produced, the first of the six characters is replaced with a letter.

In addition, a sticker with the engine code and serial number is affixed to the toothed belt guard.

The engine code letters are also located on the vehicle data plate. The data plate is located as well, in the customer service plan as well as on the vehicle in the spare tire wheel well or on the luggage compartment floor.
