Compass, Setting Zone And Calibrating

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, 2009 Volkswagen GLI, 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2008 Volkswagen GLI. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Only applies for vehicles with Highline instrument cluster!

The compass indicates the direction vehicle is facing.

For a correct reading, the correct compass zone must be adjusted.

-- Determine your geographic area, referring to the zone map, e.g. zone 8 for Germany, zone 6 for Mexico, etc.

Setting the compass zone and calibrating the compass is performed in the "main menu", using the button -A- and the selector -B- of the windshield wiper stalk.

Setting Compass Zone 

1. Bring up the main menu 

-- Switch ignition on.

A vehicle pictogram will appear.

-- Press the button -A- in windshield wiper stalk once.

-- To move back out of another menu into the main menu, hold the selector -B- depressed for two seconds.

This procedure might have to be repeated until the main menu appears.

2. Bring up the menu "Settings" 

-- Press the upper or lower selector to highlight a point on the menu.

The highlighted point on the menu is located between the two vertical lines, and a triangle is located at the right.

-- Highlight the point on the menu "Settings".

-- Press the button -A- in windshield wiper stalk.

The menu "Settings" is brought up.

3. Bring up the menu "Comfort" 

-- Using the selector -B-, highlight the menu point "Comfort".

The menu "Comfort" is brought up.

4. Bring up the menu "Compass"

-- Using the selector -B-, highlight the menu point "Compass".

The menu "Compass" is brought up.

The following indications are shown in the Compass menu:

  1. The direction
  2. Zone
  3. Calibration
  4. Back

5. Bring up the menu "Zone"

Select the point on the menu >>Zone<< and confirm it with the -A button-.

The following indications are shown in the Compass menu:

  1. The direction
  2. The zone (e.g. zone 8 for Germany, zone 6 for Mexico)
  3. (+1- Zone) the ability, to set 1 zone higher
  4. (-1- Zone) the ability, to set 1 zone lower
  5. Back

-- Using the selector, highlight the point of the menu "+1 zone" or "-1 zone" and press the button to raise or lower the indicated compass zone in the display.

6. Exit the menu

-- Using the selector -B-, highlight the menu point "Back".

-- Press the button -A-.

The menu for "Compass" is exited and the last displayed menu is brought up.

Calibrating Compass 

1. Bring up the main menu 

-- Switch ignition on.

A vehicle pictogram will appear.

-- Press the button -A- in windshield wiper stalk once.

-- To move back out of another menu into the main menu, hold the selector -B- depressed for two seconds.

This procedure might have to be repeated until the main menu appears.

2. Bring up the menu "Settings" 

-- Press the upper or lower selector to highlight a point on the menu.

3. Bring up the menu "Comfort" 

-- Using the selector -B-, highlight the menu point "Comfort".

The menu "Comfort" is brought up.

4. Bring up the menu "Compass" 

-- Using the selector -B-, highlight the menu point "Compass".

The menu "Compass" is brought up.

The following indications are shown in the Compass menu:

  1. The direction
  2. Zone
  3. Calibration
  4. Back

5. Bring up the menu "Calibration"

Select the point on the menu >>Calibration<< and confirm it with the -A button-.

The following indications are shown in the Compass menu:

  1. To calibrate, a full circle must be driven
  2. Calibrating
  3. Back

6. Bring up the menu "Calibrating" 

Select the point on the menu >>Calibrating<< and confirm it with the -A button-.

The following indication is shown in the Compass menu:

  1. Drive in a full circle

Press the -A button-.

-- Drive in a full circle at a speed of less than 10 mph (20 Km/h).

"CAL" is indicated at the top in the display, next to the -arrow- for direction.

After completing the calibration, the indication "CAL" is replaced by the actual direction (e.g. "N" for North).
