Driver And Passenger Side Curtain Airbags
Removal and installation is described for the right side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the left side is identical.
The following describes removing and installing on a 4-door vehicle. Removing and installing on a 2-door vehicle is identical.
Removing
- Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Pay attention especially to the instructions for side airbag modules. Refer to SIDE AIRBAG MODULE, SPECIAL NOTES .

-- Remove headliner. Refer to HEADLINER
Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.
-- Disconnect wiring harness from side curtain airbag
-- Remove the four bolts -1- (4.5 Nm).
The four screws -1- must be replaced.
-- Remove the two cap nuts -2- (9 Nm).
-- Remove all clips for head curtain airbag from body.
-- Remove igniter -3- from threaded pins -4- in body.
-- Remove head-level airbag from vehicle via rear lid.
Installing
-- Install in reverse order of removal.
-- After working on side curtain airbag, ensure wiring harness -1- is routed as shown.
-- The wiring harness -1- must be attached to the cable guide -2- near the C-pillar.
-- Switch on ignition.
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
