Compression, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark plug removal tool 3122B
- Puller for ignition coil T10095A
- Assembly tool T10118
- Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) VAG 1331
- Compression tester VAG 1763
Test Conditions
- Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C (86 °F).
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
Test Sequence
-- Install the T10118 on the release button -arrow-, release the electrical connector retainers, and carefully remove the connectors from the ignition coils 1 through 6.
-- From the straight side of the electrical connector, push the T10095 A on in the -direction of the arrow-, and remove the ignition coil with power output stage.
-- Remove fuse SC 27 from the fuse holder.
By removing the SC 27 fuse, the voltage supply to the fuel pump relay is interrupted.
-- Remove the spark plugs using the 3122B.
-- Check the compression using the VAG 1763.
Using the tester → Operating instructions.
-- Operate the starter until the VAG 1763 shows no further pressure increase.
Compression Pressure
| Engine code | new bar positive pressure | Wear limit bar positive pressure | Difference between cylinders bar positive pressure |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBRA | 10.0 to 13.0 | 7.5 | <ax. 3.0 |
-- Thereafter, reinstall the spark plugs and the ignition coils with power output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES .
After the test is completed:
-- Perform a vehicle system test.
-- End the vehicle system test, this will automatically erase all Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries which occurred during the assembly.
-- Generate a readiness code in connection with a road test.
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.
-- Perform a test drive.
-- After that perform the vehicle system test again and repair any occurring malfunctions.
