Chain Drive Assembly Overview

  1. Control Housing
    • Markings on control housing, refer to Fig 3.
    • Lightly lubricate the contact surfaces of the oil seals before installing.
    • Removing and installing, refer to CAMSHAFTS .
    • Disassembling and assembling, refer to Fig 4.
    • Check the control housing strainer for contamination before installing. Refer to Fig 5.
  2. Bolt, 8 Nm
    • Install with locking fluid.
  3. Camshaft Roller Chain
  4. Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster
    • Identification: 32A.
    • Only rotate the engine with the camshaft adjuster installed.
    • Installing, refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
  5. Intermediate Shaft
  6. Camshaft Roller Chain Tensioning Rail
  7. Pivot Pin, 18 Nm
  8. Camshaft Roller Chain Tensioner, 40 Nm
    • Only rotate the engine with the chain tensioner installed.
  9. Seal
    • Replace if damaged or leaking.
  10. Intermediate Shaft Roller Chain Sprocket
  11. Camshaft Roller Chain Sprocket
  12. Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) addition turn
  13. Intermediate Shaft Roller Chain Tensioner With Tensioning Rail
    • Before installation, release the locking device in the chain tensioner with a small screwdriver and press the tensioning plate against the chain tensioner.
    • Only rotate the engine with the chain tensioner installed.
  14. Crankshaft Drive Gear
    • Integral part of the crankshaft.
    • Ground down tooth aligned with the main bearing joint = Top Dead Center (TDC) cylinder 1. Refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
  15. Intermediate Shaft Roller Chain
  16. Guide Rail
  17. Guide Rail Locating Pin Without Collar, 10 Nm
  18. Pivot Pin, 18 Nm
  19. Bolt, 23 Nm
  20. Intake Camshaft Adjuster
    • Identification: 24E.
    • Only rotate the engine with the camshaft adjuster installed.
    • Installing, refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
  21. Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn
    • Always replace.
    • The contact surface of the sensor wheel and bolt head must be dry when installing.
    • To remove and install, counter hold the camshaft using an 32 mm open end wrench. Refer to CAMSHAFTS .
  22. Camshaft Roller Chain Guide Rail
  23. Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (Exhaust) -N318-
    • For the exhaust camshaft.
    • Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the electrical connector to the component.
  24. Intake Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
    • Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the electrical connector to the component
  25. Camshaft Roller Chain Guide Rail
    • Clipped onto the control housing.

-- Mark the roller chains before removing (for example, using paint, place a arrow pointing in direction of rotation).

NOTE:

Do not mark the chain using a center punch or similar means!
