Lubrication System Overview

NOTE:

If large quantities of metal particles or abraded material are detected during engine repairs, it may mean the crankshaft or rod bearings are damaged. To prevent further damage, perform the following steps after the repair:

Clean the oil passages.

Replace the oil spray jets.

Replace the oil cooler.

Replace the oil filter.

The oil level must not go above the MAX mark - danger of causing damage to the catalytic converter!

Cylinder Block
Oil Pump Timing Chain
- Beginning with MY 08 the roller chain has been changed to a toothed chain.
Bolt
- 20 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.
- Always replace.
Bolt
- 25 Nm
Oil Filter Bracket with Attachments
- Overview, refer to OIL FILTER BRACKET WITH ATTACHMENTS OVERVIEW .
Oil Pump Sprocket
- Removing and installing, refer to one of the following:
  - Engine codes BGP and BGQ, refer to OIL PUMP .
  - Engine codes CBTA and CBUA, refer to OIL PUMP .
- The lettering points outward.
- With an anti-twist mechanism.
Oil Pump
- Removing and installing, refer to one of the following:
  - Engine code BGP and BGQ, refer to OIL PUMP .
  - Engine codes CBTA and CBUA, refer to OIL PUMP .
Bolt
- 25 Nm
Oil Dipstick
- The oil level must not be above the MAX. mark!
Retaining Ring
- Clipped into the intake manifold.
Guide Tube
Intake Manifold Support
- For engines with a Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system only.
Bolt
- 25 Nm
O-ring
- Always replace.
Seal
- Always replace.
Bracket
Bolt
- 10 Nm
Lower Oil Pan
- Removing and installing, refer to LOWER OIL PAN .
Bolt
- 10 Nm
Oil Drain Plug
- 30 Nm
- Always replace.
Decoupling Element
- Bolt, 10 Nm.
Oil Intake Pipe
Bolt
- 25 Nm
Upper Oil Pan
- Removing and installing, refer to UPPER OIL PAN .
O-ring
- Always replace.
