Camshaft, removing and installing: Installing

NOTE:

When installing the camshaft the No. 1 cylinder cam lobes must point equally upward.
Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark).
When installing the camshaft, ensure proper seating of retaining lugs in bearing caps and cylinder head.
Before installing bearing caps, ensure that cylinder head bolt washers are inserted in the cylinder head.

Oil running surfaces of bearing shells.
Tighten bearing caps 2 and 4 alternately and diagonally to 8 Nm plus an additional 14 turn (90 ° ).
Install bearing caps 5, 1 and 3 and also tighten to 8 Nm plus an additional 14 turn (90 ° ) .

NOTE:

Seal parting surfaces of bearing caps 1 and 5 with AMV 174 004 01 .
Bearing cap 5 must align flush with outer edge of cylinder head, otherwise leaks can develop at the tandem pump.

Install rocker arm shafts and tighten securing bolts, first inner - 2 - and then outer - 1 - , evenly and in diagonal sequence. Tightening torque: 20 Nm plus an additional 14 turn (90 ° ).
Position hub on camshaft.

Use counterhold T10051 and tighten hub securing bolt - 1 -. Tightening torque: 100 Nm.

NOTE:

Align camshaft pulley to central position in elongated holes.
Hand tighten securing bolts - 1 - to camshaft pulley so that there is no play.
Lock hub with locking pin 3359.
Install toothed belt and tension. Refer to Toothed belts, removing, installing and tensioning .

NOTE:

After installing new hydraulic lifters the engine must not be started for approx. 30 minutes. The hydraulic compensation elements must settle (otherwise valves will strike pistons).
