Upper ball joint/bonded rubber bushing, removing

- Take a measurement - a - with a tape measure from the center of the wheel to the lower edge of the wheelhouse.
- Make a note of the measurement. This is necessary to tighten the bolts for the rear axle to the bearing bracket.
- Lift vehicle until the load on the rear axle is relieved.
The wheel should still be touching the floor.
- Loose twelve point nut from the drive shaft.
Tighten vehicle to the lifting platform
If the vehicle is not secured, there is a risk that it may slip off the hoist.
- Remove the plugs from the trailing arm - 3 - and tighten the tensioning strap.

2 - Tensioning Strap T10038 ; The vehicle must be fastened with the tensioning straps on left and right side.
- Remove wheel.
- First remove the spring

Removing and installing spring R32 → Spring R32, removing and installing
- Unscrew lower bolt - arrow - from shock absorbers.
- Remove bolts - 1 - from brake caliper and take off brake caliper.
- Suspend brake caliper from body.
- Remove bolt - 1 - for transverse link.
- Loosen transverse link connection bolt on subframe.
- Press out drive shaft.
NOTE:
- When pressing axle shaft out ensure sufficient clearance is available.
- Pull down trailing arm from control arm.
- Install tools as shown in illustration.
Make sure when setting the tools that the recess - arrow - of the press piece T10254/2 - 3 - is correctly positioned.
- Nut T10254/4 with Spindle T10254/5
- Thrust Piece T10030/1A
- Press piece T10254/2
- Hydraulic Press VAS6178 VAS 6178
- Pull the ball joint out
