Rear axle beam, assembly overview

1 - Axle beam

• Stub axle contact surfaces and threaded holes are to be free of paint and dirt

2 - Spacer bushing

Material: Zinc

• Check bushing for damage

3 - Coil spring

• Application See Parts Catalog

4 - Spring seat

5 - Hex head bolt

• 30 Nm and turn additional 90 °
• Replace each time it is removed

If weld nut threads are damaged, threads can be repaired using Heli-Coil thread inserts.

Servicing thread in side rail → Threads in longitudinal member, servicing 

6 - Damper

Functional check

7 - Hex head bolt

• 40 Nm and turn additional 90 °
• Replace each time it is removed

8 - Hex nut

• Replace each time it is removed
• The axle beam must be in the middle position when tightening the nut

We recommend that the rear of the vehicle be loaded with the weight of one person when tightening

9 - Hex socket head bolt, 8 Nm

10 - Speed sensor

11 - Stub axle

• Straightening operations are not allowed!
• Recutting the thread is not allowed!

12 - Stone protection plate

13 - Phillips-head screw, 4 Nm

14 - Brake disc

15 - Dust cap

• Replace each time it is removed
• Pressing out and driving in → Wheel bearing/wheel hub on vehicles with disc brakes, removing and installing 

A perfect seal is only achieved using a new dust cap.

16 - Self-locking 12-point nut, 175 Nm

• Replace each time it is removed

17 - Wheel hub with wheel bearing

• Replace each time it is removed

The wheel bearing and wheel hub are installed together in a housing.

This wheel bearing/hub unit is maintenance and adjustment free. Adjusting and servicing is not possible!

18 - Hex head bolt, 60 Nm

• Replace each time it is removed

19 - Shield plate

20 - Retainer for parking brake cable

21 - Parking brake cable

22 - Hex head bolt, 75 Nm

• Replace each time it is removed
• For removal of rear axle, do not loosen if possible

23 - Hex nut, self-locking, 80 Nm

• Replace each time it is removed
• When tightening nut, the axle beam must be in the horizontal position (unladen vehicle state)

24 - Hex head bolt, 80 Nm

• Replace each time it is removed

25 - Clevis mounting for rear axle

• Check and if necessary adjust rear axle total track after installation
• For removal of rear axle, do not loosen if possible

26 - Hydraulic bonded rubber bushing

Distinguish between bonded rubber bushing. The hydraulic bonded rubber bushing has a bulge - arrow  - , to the exterior of vehicle.

If the mount is leaking, it must be replaced

• Removing and installing → Hydraulic bonded rubber bushing, removing and installing 

27 - Bonded rubber bushing

• Removing and installing → Bonded rubber bushing, removing and installing 

28 - Retainer for parking brake cable

29 - 20 Nm plus an additional 1/8 turn 45 °

• Replace each time it is removed

30 - Vibration damper

• Replace each time it is removed
