Valve Stem Seals

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing 

(with cylinder head installed)

-- Remove camshaft CAMSHAFT .

-- Remove the valve lifters and place on running surface when setting down. Be careful not to switch valve lifters.

-- Move piston for respective cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) position.

-- Set the adjustable rod 2036 in place and adjust the mounting to the stud height.

-- Remove the valve springs with the valve lever VW 541/1A and the press piece VW 541/5.

NOTE:

Support valves on piston head while doing this.

-- Pull off valve stem seals using slide hammer 3047 A.

Installing 

-- Attach the plastic sleeves provided -A- to the respective valve stem. This will help avoid damage to new valve stem oil seal -B-.

-- Insert new valve stem seal into seal driver 3129.

-- Lubricate the sealing lip of the valve stem seal and carefully push onto the valve guide.

Further installation is performed in reverse order.
