Removal And Installation: Thermostat

Removing 

WARNING:

Hot steam may escape when opening expansion tank. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover the cap with a rag and open very carefully.

NOTE:

Always replace gaskets and seals.

-- Drain the coolant COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the generator [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

-- Disconnect the connector -6- from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (on radiator) -G83- -5-.

-- Unscrew the bolts -1- from the thermostat housing -2- and remove the housing -2- with the coolant thermostat -4-.

-- Turn the coolant thermostat -4- 1 /4 turn (90°) to the left and remove it from the housing. -2-.

Installing 

Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

-- Coat new O-ring -3- with coolant.

-- Insert coolant thermostat -4- into the thermostat housing -2- and turn to the right 1 /4 turn (90°).

NOTE:

The clip of the thermostat must be positioned at approximately right angle.

-- Set the housing -2- with the coolant thermostat -4- into the cylinder block.

-- Tighten housing bolts -1- to 15 Nm.

-- Connect the connector -6- to the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (on radiator) -G83- -5-.

-- Fill with coolant COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING .
