Steering column switches, removing and installing: Notes
CAUTION:
- When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD program and electrical system function checks as specified in → Battery, disconnecting and connecting .
- When removing steering column switches and drilling shear bolts, ensure that no metal shavings enter steering column switches.
Removing:
CAUTION:
Special safety precautions apply to vehicles equipped with airbags. Heed all WARNINGS pertaining to airbag servicing → 69 PASSENGER PROTECTION, AIRBAGS, SEAT BELTS
When removing the complete steering column switch assembly with mounting frame, it is disassembled and steering lock housing is also removed with it. New shear bolts are required for installing steering lock housing. Also, if only one individual component of steering column switch is removed or replaced, the sequence described as follows must always be adhered to.
- Disconnect battery → Battery, disconnecting and connecting .
- Remove steering wheel → 69 PASSENGER PROTECTION, AIRBAGS, SEAT BELTS .
- Remove steering column trim → \68 INTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
Remove components of steering column switches in the following sequence:
- Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module J527
- Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring F138
- Steering Angle Sensor G85
- Turn signal switch
- Windshield Wiper Switch E
- Mounting frame
Installing:
Install in reverse order of removal.
