Lock cylinder, removing and installing

CAUTION:
  • When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD program and electrical system function checks as specified in → Battery, disconnecting and connecting .
  • When removing steering column switches and drilling shear bolts, ensure that no metal shavings enter steering column switches.
  • Steering lock may be destroyed.
  • If steering lock is operated without lock cylinder, it locks and must be replaced.
  • Steering lock must not be operated without lock cylinder.
CAUTION: Special safety precautions apply to vehicles equipped with airbags. Heed all WARNINGS pertaining to airbag servicing → 69 PASSENGER PROTECTION, AIRBAGS, SEAT BELTS

Removing: 

NOTE:
  • For reasons of clarity, illustration does not show turn signal switch and windshield wiper switch. Switches must not be removed when removing lock cylinder.

Position of key in lock cylinder:

1 - Position "Stop"

2 - Position "Drive"

3 - Position "Start"

NOTE:
  • For reasons of clarity, the following illustration depicts lock cylinder as removed and without ignition key.

Installing: 

NOTE:
  • In the following illustration, ignition key is not depicted for reasons of clarity.
NOTE:
  • Electrical connection of induction coil for anti-theft immobilizer must be inserted into guide on steering lock housing.
