Gear Selector Mechanism, Removing And Installing

Removing 

Selector mechanism up to 12.00 

NOTE: The cable locking mechanisms -A- or -B- may only be pried off if the gear selector cable or gate selector cable or just the cable locking mechanism is to be replaced.

1 = 13 mm open end wrench, commercially available

If the above-named parts are not to be replaced:

Refer to 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for AWW & AWP engines, or 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for BDF engines

Installing 

Installation is performed in the reverse sequence. When installing note the following:

Selector mechanism up to 12.00 

If cables are to be reused, replace cable locking mechanisms.

NOTE: The seals (arrows) outside the recess must be grease free.

Selector mechanism from 01.01 

The cable locks have holes for securing them on the gear selector lever or the relay lever.

The holes in the cable locks have various diameters.

Application 

Cable lock for: Dimension "a"
Gear selector cable to gear shift lever 10 mm
Gate selector cable to relay lever 8 mm

The cable locks no longer need to be replaced following disassembling.

NOTE: Always replace securing clips -3- and -4- after disassembling

Continued for all selector mechanisms 

Tightening torques 

Shift housing to body. Refer to Shift lever and shift lever housing, servicing  item Shift lever and shift lever housing, servicing 

Cross support to body:

Refer to 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for AWW & AWP engines, or 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for BDF engines

Selector cable support bracket to transmission. Refer to Selector cables, assembly overview  item Selector cables, assembly overview
