Vehicles with non-adjustable throttle position sensor
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 15 other vehicles, including the 2006 Volkswagen Golf, 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, 2005 Volkswagen Golf, 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2004 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Test sequence
- Connect scan tool V.A.G 1551 (VAG 1552) and select control module for engine electronics with the "address word" 01. For this, the ignition must be switched on: Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) from M.Y. 99-01 or 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) from M.Y. 2002 and on
Scan tool display:
Quick data transfer HELP Select function XX
- Press buttons 0 and 8 for the function "Reading measuring value blocks" and press Q button to confirm input.
Scan tool display:
Read measuring value block Enter display group number XXX
- Press buttons 0 0 and 2 for the "Display group number 2" and press Q button to confirm input.
- Check reading of the throttle position in display field 2. The accelerator pedal must not be depressed for this. Specification: 0.0%
Read measuring value block 2 0/min 0.0% 0 1 0 18.4 ° C
- Check reading for the idle switch in display field 3. The center digit must be set at 1. Reading: 0 1 0
- Slowly depress the accelerator pedal and observe display fields 2 and 3.
Read measuring value block 2 0/min 100.0% 0 0 0 18.4
- Display field 2: Throttle position value must increase continuously. Specified value for full throttle position: 100.0%
- Display field 3: The center digit must jump to 0. Reading: 0 0 0
NOTE:
- On vehicles with automatic transmission, the pressure point of the kick-down switch must be noticeable before the throttle reaches the wide open stop.
If specifications are not obtained:
- Press → button
- Press buttons 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and press Q button to confirm input.
- Switch ignition off.
- Check wiring for throttle position sensor G79 as follows:
- Remove cover in footwell (driver side).
- Disconnect 6-pin harness connector for throttle position sensor G79.
- Remove wiper arms and cowl panel: Refer to 92 WINDSHIELD WIPER & WASHER SYSTEM
Vehicles with 80-pin control module
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to control module wiring harness.
- Check for open circuits in wires between test box and connector according to wiring diagram. Terminal 2 + Socket 11 Terminal 3 + Socket 23 Terminal 4 + Socket 24 Terminal 5 + Socket 12 Terminal 6 + Socket 25 Vehicles with automatic transmission Terminal 1 + Socket 8 Harness resistance: max. 1.5 Ω
- Check wires for short circuit to each other, to vehicle Ground (GND) and to B+. Specification: ∞ Ω
Vehicles with 121-pin control module
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to control module wiring harness.
- Check for open circuits in wires between test box and connector according to wiring diagram. Terminal 2 + Socket 12 Terminal 3 + Socket 50 Terminal 4 + Socket 69 Terminal 5 + Socket 70 Terminal 6 + Socket 51 Vehicles with automatic transmission Terminal 1 + Socket 63 Harness resistance: max. 1.5 Ω
- Check wires for short circuit to each other, to vehicle Ground (GND) and to B+. Specification: ∞ Ω
Continue for all vehicles
If no malfunction is detected in the wiring:
- Replace Throttle Position (TP) Sensor G79 ,.
