Valve stem seals, replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Adjustable rod 2036
Slide hammer 3047 A
Seal driver 3129
Valve spring lever 541/1A

Thrust piece 541/5

Removing

(with cylinder head installed)

Remove camshaft. Refer to Camshaft, removing and installing .
Remove valve lifters and place on contact surface when setting down. Be careful not to switch valve lifters.
Move piston for respective cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) position.

Install adjustable rod 2036 and adjust mounting to stud height.
Remove valve springs with valve lever 541/1A and thrust piece 541/5.

NOTE:

Support valves on piston head while doing this.

Remove valve stem seals using slide hammer 3047 A.

Installing

Place supplied plastic sleeve - A - on appropriate valve stem. This prevents new valve stem seal - B - from being damaged.
Insert new valve stem oil seal into seal driver 3129.
Grease lip of valve stem oil seal and carefully slide onto valve guide.
