Lock set or Immobilizer Control Module, replacing procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: To guarantee that the immobilizer can be identified later, the following steps must be taken when changing the lock set and control module.
  1. Lock set with two-part sticker 
    NOTE: Sticker on key tag of new lock set serves to identify mechanical locking.
    • Remove right sticker -2- (with bar code) from new lock set key fob and destroy.
    • Remove left sticker -1- (without bar code) from new lock set key fob and attach to customer key fob in place of existing (left) sticker.

    This brings identification on customer's key fob up to date.

    • Left sticker -1- (new) - mechanical locking
    • Right sticker - Immobilizer Control Module

  2. Immobilizer Control Module with three-part sticker 
    NOTE:
    • Sticker on housing serves to identify this special control module.
    • Small sticker bottom right (without black covered identification) remains on control module.
    • Remove larger sticker -1- (with bar code) and smaller lower left sticker -3- (with black covered zone) from new control module and separate. Destroy large sticker -1- (with bar code).
    • Attach smaller sticker -3- (with black covered zone) in place of previous right sticker on customers key fob.

    This brings identification on customer's key fob up to date.

    • Left sticker - mechanical locking
    • Right sticker -3- (new) - Immobilizer Control Module

    • Return key fob/label with sticker -1- to customer.
