4-cylinder engines
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Seating surfaces and threads must be free of paint on both sides of the pump.
- Secure pump -1- with bolts -3- in pivot bracket -2-. See Fig 1.
- Install bolts -4- and tighten.
- Install belt pulley -6- on pump -1- and tighten.
Tightening torque:
- 3- Hex bolt, 25 N.m (18 ft lb)
- 4- Hex bolt, 25 N.m (18 ft lb)
- 5- Socket -head bolt, 25 N.m (18 ft lb)
- Mount pivot bracket -2- and pump -1- with bolts -3- to mount -4-. See Fig 2.
- Thread bolt -3- into pivot bracket -2- until threaded bushing contacts mount -4- (do not tighten).
- Install hex bolt -5- (do not tighten).
- Fit mount -4- together with pump and pivot bracket to bracket -5- and engine block. See Fig 3.
- First screw bolts -1-, -2- and -3- in a couple of turns and then tighten in sequence as numbered.
Tightening torque: 25 N.m (18 ft lb)
- Install adjustment bracket -7- to engine block using hex bolts -6-.
- Install adjustment bolt -8- to pivot bracket.
- Tighten hex bolts -6-.
Tightening torque: 25 N.m (18 ft lb)
- Install V-belt and adjust tension, see V-belt tension, adjusting .
NOTE:
Stud -9- used only on vehicles with gasoline engine.
