Checking wiring

Remove wiper arms and plenum chamber cover. → 92 WINDSHIELD WIPER & WASHER SYSTEM

Connect Test box VAG 1598/31 to control module wiring harness. Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected by this action.

Check wiring between test box and 3-pin harness connector for open circuit using wiring diagram.

	G61 :	G66 :
Terminal - 1 - + socket	106	107
Terminal - 2 - + socket	99	99
Terminal - 3 - + socket	108	108
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

Also, check wires for short to one another. Specified value: ∞Ω~

If no wiring fault is detected:

Loosen knock sensor and re-tighten to 20 Nm.
Perform road test again and check knock control specifications on display.

During the road test the following conditions must be fulfilled:

Coolant temperature must exceed 85 ° C.
When temperature is reached, operating conditions Idling, Part throttle, Wide Open Throttle (WOT), and Overrun must be attained several times
At Wide Open Throttle (WOT) engine speed must exceed 3500 RPM

Again, check DTC memory of control module.

If the malfunction is still present:

Replace Knock sensor G61 or Knock sensor G66 , or.
Check DTC memory. If necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing (scan tool functions 02 and 05) .
Display readiness code → Readiness code (function 15), displaying . If DTC memory has been erased, readiness code must be generated again → Readiness code (function 15), generating .
