Safety Precautions

WARNING:
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
- Route all lines and wires in their original locations.
- For example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines.
- Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- The fuel or fuel lines in the fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
- In addition, the fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system, place a cloth around the connection and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection!
- Wear protective eyewear, gloves and clothing during all work on the fuel system to prevent eye injuries and scalding.
- If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump were removed or replaced, the fuel system must be filled in order to bleed it. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING AND BLEEDING . (Avoid running the high pressure fuel pump dry.)
Be sure to note the following when removing and installing the fuel level sensor or fuel pump (fuel delivery unit) from a full or partially full fuel tank:
- Before starting work, switch the exhaust extraction system on and place an extraction hose close to the fuel tank opening to extract the fuel fumes. If no exhaust extraction system is available, a radial fan (as long as motor is not in air flow) with a displacement greater than 15 m3 /h can be used.
- Prevent fuel from contacting skin! Wear fuel resistant gloves!
