Removal And Installation: Transmission: Removing

- Engine Support Feed 10 - 222 A/8

- Transmission Support Jig 3336
- Pin 3282/29
- Transmission mounting elements, (when mounting the adjustment plate 3282/39 on the transmission support 3282)
- Grease for Clutch Splines G 000 100
-- Determine whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.
-- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Removal and Installation .
-- Remove the engine cover if the engine lifting eyes are not accessible for the 10 - 222 A.
-- Remove the complete air filter housing if it located near the battery. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines, refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Description and Operation .
Gas engines, refer to [For engine(s) BGP, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA] Description and Operation .
-- Remove the battery and the battery tray. Refer to Removal and Installation .
-- Remove the shift cable lock washer -arrow 1- from the selector lever -A-.
-- Remove the shift cable from the pin.
Metal Relay Lever
-- Remove the selector cable lock washer -2- from the relay lever -B-.
-- Remove the selector cable from the pin.
-- Remove the lock washer -arrow 3- from the relay lever -B- and then remove the relay lever.
Plastic Relay Lever
-- Remove the relay lever together with the cable retainer. Refer to PLASTIC RELAY LEVER .
Continuation for All
-- Remove the nut -arrow 4- and then remove the shift lever -A- from the transmission (→ previous illustration).
-- Remove the cable bracket support bolts -arrows- and support from the transmission.
-- Tie up the shift cable and the selector cable.
-- Remove the bracket -B- from the transmission and pull it off the hose/line assembly -A-.
-- Remove the transmission support bolts -arrows A- and support.
-- Remove the slave cylinder bolts -arrow B- and it lay aside, secure with wire, do not open the hydraulic system.
Do not press the clutch pedal any more.
-- Remove the ground cable from the upper engine/transmission bolt.
-- Disconnect the connector -arrow 1- for the backup lamp switch -F4-.
-- Remove the connector -arrow 2- and wire -arrow 3- from the starter.
-- Remove the upper bolt for the starter.
-- Remove the upper engine/transmission bolts.
-- Disconnect any hoses and cables in the area of the lifting eyes on the engine for the 10 - 222 A.
-- Install the 10 - 222 A and the 10 - 222 A/8, the 10 - 222 A/3 and the 10 - 222 A/16 in front of the hood gas struts.
-- Attach the right front 10 - 222 A/10 to the engine.
-- Attach the left rear 10 - 222 A/2 to the engine -arrow-.
-- Connect the 10 - 222 A/2 to the 10 - 222 A/16.
-- Preload the engine/transmission subassembly slightly using the spindles.
-- Lift the vehicle.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .
-- Remove the lower part of the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .
-- Disconnect all wires from the transmission.
-- Separate the exhaust system at the double clamp and remove the exhaust pipe bracket from the subframe. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines, refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Removal and Installation .
Gas engines, refer to [For engine(s) BGP, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA] Removal and Installation .
-- Remove the heat shield bolts -arrows- and shield from above the right drive axle, if equipped.
-- Remove the drive axles from the flange shafts and tie them up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the surface protection.
-- Remove the pendulum support bolts -arrows A, B and C-.
-- Remove the left transmission mount to bracket bolts -arrows-.
-- Angle the engine/transmission subassembly by lowering it using the spindles on the 10 - 222 A.
Lower the threaded spindle on the 10 - 222 A/16 using the wing nut until the threads are flush -arrow-.
Pay attention to the lines when lowering the transmission.
- The bolts -arrows- for the transmission mount bracket -A- must be accessible.
-- Remove the transmission mount bracket -A- bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the small cover plate -A- for the flywheel (if equipped) behind the right flange shaft -arrow-.
-- Remove the support -1- bolt -arrow- from the transmission, if equipped.
-- For transmissions on vehicles with the start/stop system: disconnect the connector -arrow- from the transmission neutral position sensor -G701-.
-- Remove the starter. Refer to Removal and Installation .
To remove the transmission, the 3282 must be equipped the 3282/39.
-- Install the 3282 to the V.A.G 1383A.
-- Align the arms on the 3282 so that they match up with the holes in the 3282/39.
-- Install the mounting elements -A and C-, on the 3282/39, as illustrated.
-- Position the V.A.G 1383A under the vehicle. The arrow symbol -B- on the 3282/39 points in direction of travel.
-- Align the 3282/39 so that it is parallel to the transmission and secure the safety support to the transmission.
-- Install the 3282/29 into the hole on the transmission for the pendulum support bolt.
-- Remove the lower engine/transmission bolts.
-- Remove the transmission from the alignment pins and carefully move it toward the subframe.
-- Rotate the transmission near the differential downward.
-- Push the engine forward slightly with a 2nd technician.
-- Carefully lower the transmission while guiding the right flange shaft -A- into the flywheel area as shown.
-- Use the spindles on the 3282 to adjust the position of the transmission while lowering it.
Pay attention to the lines when lowering the transmission.
