Oil Pump

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, 2007 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

-- Remove the upper oil pan. Refer to UPPER OIL PAN .

-- Tension the chain tensioner -1-, secure it using the locking pin T10115 and remove it.

Hold the sprocket -2- in place using the counterhold tool Touareg V10 T10172.

-- Remove the sprocket from the oil pump and remove the oil pump.

Installing

-- Replace the O-ring and hand tighten the bolts for the oil pump, see "O-ring" in item:  25.

-- Place the sprocket, with the lettering facing outward, onto the oil pump shaft and secure it with a new bolt -1- (chain not yet installed).

Tightening specification: 20 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

-- Loosen the bolts -2, 3 and 4-.

-- Check the oil pump align plate T03005. If there are still protective shields on the magnets, remove them.

-- Check that there are no shavings located on the magnets on the oil pump align plate T03005.

-- Place the oil pump align plate T03005 onto the crankshaft and secure it using 2 bolts -1- for the vibration damper.

Tightening specification: 30 Nm

The oil pump is activated by the magnets.

-- Remove the locking pin T40069.

-- Press the oil pump lightly toward the chain -arrow 2-.

NOTE:

This step is important in order to guarantee correct position of the sprockets to each other.

-- In this position, first tighten the bolts -2 and 3- and then the bolt -4- to 25 Nm.

-- Install the locking pin T40069 again. The crankshaft must only be rotated slightly around the Top Dead Center (TDC) position for this. Otherwise there is a risk the valves will rest on the pistons.

-- Remove the oil pump align plate T03005.

-- If a new oil pump is installed, fill the oil pump with some engine oil via the intake passage and rotate the oil pump several times through.

-- Place the chain onto the oil pump sprocket.

-- Install the upper oil pan. Refer to UPPER OIL PAN .

-- Install the guide rail -2-, relieve the tension on the chain tensioner -1- and remove the locking pin T10115.

NOTE:

Make sure that the chain lies correctly in the guide rail -4- and in the tensioning rail -3-.

-- Adjust the valve timing. Refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .

The rest of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedures. When doing this note the following:

-- Fill the coolant. Refer to one of the following:

NOTE:

In MY 08, the oil pump timing chain was changed from a roller chain to a toothed chain. The gears are now wider and the oil pump shim T03005/1 must also be used when securing the oil pump.
