Cylinder Head Cover

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
• Sealant, black AMV 174 004 01

Removing 

-- Remove engine cover.

One Piece Engine cover

Pull the one piece front engine cover -arrows A- upward with a quick jerk and then pull the lower mount -arrow B- forward.

Two Piece Engine Cover

On the two piece engine cover, first pull the outer cover upward with a quick jerk -arrows in the upper illustration-, then pull the inner engine cover upward with a quick jerk -arrows in lower illustration-.

-- Remove upper part of toothed belt cover.

-- Remove the crankcase ventilation bleeder hose on the cylinder head cover.

-- Unbolt bracket on exhaust gas recirculation valve.

-- Unbolt the cylinder head cover.

Installing 

Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

-- Coat both edges on the front bearing cap/cylinder head sealing surfaces with a drop sealant, black AMV 174 004 01 (diameter approximately 5 mm) -arrows-.

-- Coat both edges on the rear bearing cap/cylinder head sealing surfaces with a drop sealant, black AMV 174 004 01 (diameter approximately 5 mm) -arrows-.

-- Hand tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in sequence -1 to 13-.

-- Tighten the bolts in sequence -1 to 13- to 10 Nm.
