Engine And Transmission Mount, Adjusting

Engine Support bridge 10-222 A
Engine Support Adapter 10-222 A/3
Adapter 10-222 A/13
Adapter 10-222 A/18
Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
Hose Clip Pliers VAS 6362

Procedure

WARNING:

When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:

Route all lines and wires in their original locations.
For example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines.
Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER .

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Remove the intake tube between the mass airflow sensor -G70- and intake duct. Loosen the hose clamps using hose clip pliers VAS 6362.

CAUTION:

Electronic components could be destroyed when the battery is disconnected:

Follow the required steps when disconnecting the battery.

-- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground cable -arrow- from the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the battery, battery tray bolts -arrows- and tray.

-- Remove the auxiliary fuel pump -V393- (the fuel lines remain connected). Refer to Auxiliary Fuel Pump -V393- (IN-LINE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP) .

-- Install the engine support bridge 10-222 A with the necessary adapters as shown and support the engine in the installed position.

-- Install the engine support bridge 10-222 A with the necessary adapters as shown and support the engine in the installed position.

NOTE:

The engine mount bolts may only be loosened when the engine is supported using the engine support bridge 10-222 A.

-- Replace the engine mount bolts -arrows- one after the other (if not already done) and tighten them by hand.

Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

-- Replace the transmission mount bolts -arrows- one after the other (if not already done) and tighten them by hand.

Vehicles with a Dual Shift Gearbox (DSG®)

-- Replace the transmission mount bolts -arrows- one after the other (if not already done) and tighten them by hand.

-- Loosen the left and right engine and transmission mount to bracket bolts approximately 2 turns.

There must be a distance of at least 10 mm -a- between the engine mount bracket -2- and right longitudinal member.
The casting edge on the engine mount bracket -2- must be parallel to the engine mount support arm -1-.

Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

-- On the transmission side, the edges of the transmission mount bracket -1- and transmission mount -2- are parallel.

Dimension -x- must be the same size on both sides of the bracket.

Vehicles with a DSG®

-- On the transmission side, the edges of the transmission mount support arm -1- and transmission mount -2- are parallel.

Dimension -x- must be the same size on both sides of the bracket.

Continuation for all Vehicles

-- Tighten the engine and transmission mount to bracket bolts.

Tightening specifications, refer to ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNT OVERVIEW .

Further installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

Make sure the fuel lines are securely fastened.
Do not interchange the supply and return lines (the return line is blue or has a blue mark, the supply line is black).

-- Observe the notes after reconnecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .
