Distance Impulse Number (K Number), Reading

The distance impulse number is a constant value that is required for calculating the speed indication and the distance traveled.

The distance impulse number (K number) cannot be changed via the "adaptation" function!

For instrument clusters with mile indicators, the distance impulse number is shown in kilometers. The trip impulse number for mile values can be calculated as follows: Trip impulse number for kilometer values x 1.609 = trip impulse number for mile values.

Press the C button on the VAG 1551 to abort the "Read distance impulse number" function.

1. Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer"
2. Switch ignition on and enter address word 17 for "instrument cluster".
3. After control module identification is displayed, press right arrow button. Indicated on scan tool:
   • Rapid data transfer HELP
   • Select function XX
4. Press buttons 1 and 0 to select function 10 "Adaptation". Indicated on scan tool:
   • Rapid data transfer Q
   • 10 - Adaptation
5. Press Q button to confirm input. Indicated on scan tool:
   • Adaptation
   • Enter channel number XX
6. Press buttons 1 and 6. Press Q button to confirm input. Indicated on scan tool:
   • Channel 16 adaptation 3355
   • - 1 3 -
7. Distance impulse number must match engine/transmission combination of vehicle. See Figure . Abort the "Reading out trip impulse number" function using the C button. Indicated on scan tool:
   • Adaptation
   • Enter channel number XX
8. Press C button. Indicated on scan tool:
   • Rapid data transfer HELP
   • Select function XX
9. Press buttons 0 and 6 to select function 06 "End Output". Indicated on scan tool:
   • Rapid data transfer Q
   • 06 - End Output
10. Press Q button to confirm input. Indicated on scan tool:
    • Rapid data transfer HELP
    • Enter address word XX
11. Switch off ignition. Disconnect Data Link Connector (DLC).
