Work sequence

- Connect V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) with adaptor cable V.A.G 1551/3.
After connecting Scan Tool (ST):
Depending upon desired function:
- Turn on ignition.
or
- Start engine , Table "Selectable functions".
NOTE:
- If display remains blank, check voltage supply for diagnostic connection: → Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- If display does not indicate as described in work sequence: Scan Tool (ST) operating instructions
- If due to an input malfunction "malfunction in data transfer!" is displayed, pull wire off Scan Tool (ST), reconnect and repeat step.
- Operate Scan Tool (ST) and note displayed information:

- Operate Scan Tool (ST) and note displayed information:
- Press button - 1 - to select "Rapid data transfer".
- Press buttons - 0 - and - 1 - for address word "Engine electronics" and confirm entry with - Q - button.
Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 display will show control module identification, e.g.:
| 038906018M 1.9l R4 EDC G00AG 1813 -> Coding XXXXX WSC XXXXX |
- 038906018M = Part No. for Control Module (always check with parts department for latest part number)
- 1.9 ltr. = Engine displacement
- R4 = Engine type (4 Cyl. in-line engine)
- EDC = Injection system (Electronic Diesel Control)
- G00 = Equipped with cruise control
- 00 =~Not equipped with cruise control
- AG = Transmission type: Automatic transmission
- SG = Manual transmission
- 1813 = ECM software
- Coding xxxxx = Coding control module, Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 codes.
- WSC xxxxx = Dealer number from V.A.G 1551 , of the dealer that last performed coding. (If the factory coding has not been changed, WSC 00000 appears)
- Press → button.
