- Turn on ignition:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) must illuminate until engine has started. (Glow plug indicator lamp also illuminates during glow period when engine is cold)
If MIL does not illuminate with ignition on:
- Check wiring from the ECM to MIL
| Cause: MIL is not activated or does not light-up due to open circuit. | Corrective steps:
|
|
| If wiring to MIL is ok | ||
| Cause of malfunction | → | ECM inoperative → replace ECM → Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 , replacing |
If Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K83 lights-up with ignition on, continue as follows:
- Start engine and let idle
- MIL lamp must go out after a few seconds.
If MIL lamp does not go out:
- Check Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing .
If no DTC is stored:
| Cause: MIL lamp is permanently activated by short to Ground (GND) | Corrective steps:
|
|
| If specification infinity ∞ Ω is obtained and no short to GND can be found: | ||
| Cause of malfunction | → | ECM malfunction → Engine Control Module (ECM), replace → Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 , replacing |
- Display readiness code → Readiness code, displaying . If DTC memory has been erased, reset the readiness code → Readiness code, setting .
